Error description
There is a bug in PortletRequestWrapper#getCookies method that causes the method to return null in some scenarios.
Local fix
The best solution would be to change your bean logic so as to process the event during JSF lifecycle execution, if that would be possible. Note that during JSF lifecycle execution, you should be able to obtain the EventRequest object from the FacesContext, which would allow you to access the event payload.

Therefore, the application is unable to retrieve its cookies. Depending on the application, this may result in improper behavior or an exception. An interim fix is available to resolve this problem.
Problem conclusion
