Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: All users of DB2 for z/OS using DB2 command  *
*                 START/STOP/DISPLAY PROCEDURE and/or FUNCTION *
*                 with SCOPE GROUP.                            *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When issuing a DB2 command for a        *
*                      PROCEDURE or FUNCTION with SCOPE GROUP, *
*                      DB2 will issue an X994 message when PTF *
*                      UI58518/UI58519 is applied.             *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
When UI58518/UI58519 is applied, DB2 was not restoring a pointer
correctly once the DB2 receiver of the SCOPE(GROUP) command
is being processed. The missing pointer caused DB2 to acquire
an exclusive lock preventing other DB2 members in the
datasharing group from gaining the lock on the procedure
or function object resulting in the X994 message reported.

Problem conclusion

  • DB2 has been modified to restore the correct pointer so a
share lock can be retrieved.
