Error description

  • In IBM Developer for z Systems (IDz) v14.1.5, a z/OS Database
    connection
profile enabled with "single sign-on" and "Connect every time
the workbench is started" will result in multiple errors
messages when IDz is started but the user has not yet connected
to the remote host with user id and password. The user will see
    the following error message repeatedly:
Error creating JDBC Connection connection to <database
    connection name>.

The details description of the error message and the Error log
file will display the following information:
    com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.SqlSyntaxErrorException: <connection
information> Null password is not supported. ERRORCODE=-4461,
    SQLSTATE=42815

The same issue can be reproduced in ID 14.1.6

Local fix

  • 1) Disable "single sign-on" in the database connection profile
and use the user id and password credentials instead
    OR
    2) Disable "Connect every time the workbench is started" in
    database connection "Common" properties.
    OR
    3) Remove the database connection containing "single sign-on"
and "Connect every time the workbench is started", created a new
database connection profile with user id and password
    credentials only.

Problem summary

  • Infinite loop in communication between IDz and DataStudio when
trying to automatically connect on start and a connection was
not already established to the mainframe.

Logic added to properly request credentials from IDz in this
    case on the DS side.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix
