Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 11 for z/OS customers using          *
    * Partition By Growth (PBG) table space. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A new partition was added mistakenly *
    * when any prior partition was stopped. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    There were total 15 existing parts in a PBG table space, which
    can grow more partitions later. At one point, the entire
    PBG table space was stopped by Db2 STOP DATABASE command. At
    the same time, an insert job was trying to insert more rows
    to the same table space, it ignored the table space being
    stopped, mistakenly added a new partition (#16 in this case).

Problem conclusion

  • Db2 code is modified to prevent the growth of the PBG table
    space when any or entire PBG table space partition are
    stopped.
