APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When COBOL program executes a MOVE of invalid data from a
    packed decimal field to a numeric edited field, a s0c7 may
    occur.

Local fix

  • Correct the invalid data

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.2 compiling *
    *                 programs that MOVE non-numeric data          *
    *                 from a PACKED-DECIMAL sender to a            *
    *                 NUMERIC-EDITED receiver.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The program may have a S0C7 abend. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF *
    ****************************************************************
    The compiler was previously changed to generate
    better-performing code for moves to numeric-edited data items.
    As the compiler doesn't guarantee the same behaviour as older
    versions for invalid data, the new instructions validate the
    digits and sign code of PACKED-DECIMAL values, abending when
    the digits or sign code are not NUMERIC.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was modified to use less-efficient instructions
    that have the same behaviour as previous versions for customers
    using ZONEDATA(NOPFD) or ZONEDATA(MIG). Customers should use
    ZONEDATA(NOPFD) if they have invalid data and used
    NUMPROC(NOPFD|PFD) in V4.2, or ZONEDATA(MIG) if they have
    invalid data and used NUMPROC(MIG) in V4.2.
