  * USERS AFFECTED: All users of  the IBM Automatic Binary       *
  *                 Optimizer (ABO) v1.3 with input modules      *
  *                 compiled from COBOL source containing the    *
  *                 SORT or MERGE statements.                    *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In some rare instances the ABO          *
  *                      optimized binary may abend in SORT      *
  *                      with abend code U4036 and reason code   *
  *                      6. The abend may occur during           *
  *                      execution of a binary which was         *
  *                      optimized from an input module that     *
  *                      was originally compiled from COBOL      *
  *                      source that contained either a SORT or  *
  *                      MERGE statement. The abend is more      *
  *                      likely to occur in COBOL programs that  *
  *                      sort or merge large amounts of data.    *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply provided service                       *
  ****************************************************************
  ABO was modified such that these types of optimized modules no
  longer abend.
  

Problem conclusion

• These types of  ABO optimized modules now execute successfully.
