APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • During the validation of REPLACE statement syntax in the library
phase, the compiler could sometimes get confused if the
REPLACING statement was missing a period and the next period in
the program was after or inside of an embedded SQL statement.
Incorrect syntax of the REPLACING statement can trigger this.

Local fix

  • Correct the syntax of the REPLACING statement. For example,
    change

INITIALIZE SOME-DATA-ITEM REPLACE NUMERIC DATA BY 00000000.
    to
INITIALIZE SOME-DATA-ITEM REPLACING NUMERIC DATA BY 00000000.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Possible infinite compiler loop in *
    *                      module IGYCLIBR.                        *

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
During the validation of REPLACE statement syntax in the library
phase, the compiler could sometimes get confused if the REPLACE
statement was missing a period and the next period in the
program was after or inside of an embedded SQL statement.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was updated to perform correct validation of
REPLACE statements during the library phase, regardless of the
presence of any subsequent embedded SQL statements in the
    program.
