Error description

  • Service team finds that, after changes implemented via OA53037
    UA94775 MQ may return misleading information regarding its use
    of above the bar storage. OA53037 introduced changes where XES
    will allocate the same amount of storage for serialized list and
    lock structures however, it is now taken from 64 bit storage
    instead of via dataspaces (4G per serialized list structure
    connector and 36G per lock structure connector) MQ does not
    exclude 64 bit storage allocated with MEMLIMIT=NO. Although it
    is not necessary to change the MQ MEMLIMIT value in conjunction
    with this change introduced by XES (OA53037), it is the case
    that CSQY220I can return the additional storage amounts
    allocated by XES module IXLD1INT. This can have the knock on
    effect that CSQY224I / CSQY226I indicate a storage shortage/
    contraction condition when in fact such is not the case.
    .
    This may appear to be a storage leak, but it is not.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM MQ for z/OS Version 9 *
    *                 Release 1 Modification 0.                    *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: MQ may return misleading information *
    * regarding its use of above the bar *
    *                      storage in the message CSQY220I.        *
    ****************************************************************
    MQ may return misleading information regarding its use of above
    the bar storage.

    The amount of above bar storage that MQ reports that it is using
    could be inflated to the point where messages CSQY224I and
    CSQY225E can be issued even when this calculation is incorrect.

Problem conclusion

  • The formula used to calculate the amount of above bar storage
    being used by MQ has been corrected so that it now shows the
    true figure.
