Error description

  • Part of the compiler was making an assumption
that there was only one literal in the INSPECT statement, which
meant that when there were 2 literals, the second one was
ignored. When 3+ literals were present, the compiler called the
runtime to handle the INSPECT, instead of using generated
compiler code, so 3+ literals works fine.

USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL Vx.x compiling
    programs with INSPECT TALLYING statements
where there were exactly two literals, each
of length one byte, being tallied.

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF *
    ****************************************************************
The compiler was incorrectly generating a check for only the
first of two one-byte literals for INSPECT TALLYING statements.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was fixed to generate checks for both of the two
one-byte literals for INSPECT TALLYING statements.
