PH02757: MODIFY RECOVERY DELETE AGE(*) DELETEDS DOES NOT DELETE COPY DATASET WHEN MIGRATED AND NAME GREATER 42 BYTE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• MODIFY RECOVERY DELETE AGE(*) DELETEDS does not delete copy
  dataset, when it is migrated and datset name is greater 42 byte.
  
  Due to a wrong lenght field, the HSM request to delete the
  dataset results in a delete failed for datasets with lenght
  of 43 and 44 bytes.
  
  The dataset has to be deleted manually.
  
  Example copy dataset is 43 bytes in length :

  But in TSO we receive due to dsn name cut down to 42 byte :
  ARC1001I SYSADM.T1234.DSN8DC1U.NEWPHONE.P000.T15581 DELETE
           FAILED,
  ARC1001I (CONT.) RC=0002, REAS=0000
  ARC1102I DATA SET IS NOT MIGRATED/BACKED UP

• Delete dataset manually.

  MODIFY RECOVERY with DELETEDS keyword completes with return
  code 0, and MSGDSNU1325I IMAGE COPY DATA SET DELETED for a
  migrated image copy data set with name longer than 42
  characters.
  
  However, MSGARC1001I is issued in TSO indicating the delete
  had failed.
  
  The command built and passed to DFSMShsm to delete the
  migrated data set has an incorrect length, causing the
  data set name to be truncated.
  

Problem conclusion

• MODIFY RECOVERY is modified to pass the correct length to
  DFSMShsm to fix the problem.
