Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All IBM Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS V8.1 * * customers. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Inquisitor Import does not clearly * * diagnose a corrupted input file. A * * warning message is issued in the log * * but the Import job completes * * successfully although no records * * are imported, thus not alerting * * the customer sufficiently about * * the failure. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: N/A * **************************************************************** The Inquisitor Import does validate the header record of an input file and once that is satisfied, it ignores any records that it does not understand. This design allows it to process files that contain new extension records even when it is not at the latest level of maintenance. It is possible however under some file transmission settings for the header to remain valid while the rest of the file is invalid because of unrecognized code page points.
Problem conclusion
The Inquisitor Import has been modified to stop processing with a clear error message and high return code when encountering read errors in unzipping a file, for example read errors that are issued due to unrecognized code points. The Inquisitor Import will continue to ignore records that it does not understand but are otherwise valid in the sense that they do not cause unzipping or other read errors. A similar modification has been done to the Usage Import to avoid future problems. This is an example of the messages that are issued when the Inquisitor Input file contains unrecognized code points: HSIC059E Could Not Read IQDATA HSIC020E Inquisitor Import encountered errors. Error code = 6073 The job return code is 8.
