OA46439: ABEND0C4 PIC38 IN DFSORT WHEN INVOKED BY HSIZ0203 IN USAGE MONITOR

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• DFSORT abends with S0C4-38 when invoked by the Usage Monitor
  writer task module HSIZ0203 after a data space switch/closure
  has occurred branch based on GPR9 when in AMODE64 results in a
  bad target address GPR9 high half contains STCK value while GPR9
  low half is good.

  The Usage Monitor writer task E15 SORT exit used GPR9 for STCK
  arithmetic, but did not restore the high half of GPR9 before
  exiting. DFSORT used GPR9 to form a branch address which was
  not in defined storage. Abend S0C4-38 occurred as a result.
  

Problem conclusion

• The SORT exits supplied by module HSIZ0203 will save the 64-bit
  general purpose register high halves on entry, and restore them
  on exit.
