Error description

  • When you try to start a process and the Saved Search
acceleration tools are used, the process might fail. In the
SystemOut.log file of the server, you find an exception like
    this exception:

You see this exception either because your process model has a
variable or business object property that is marked "Visible in
Process Portal" and this variable or property uses a business
object type that is a Selection simple type, or because you
created a variable or business object property that is marked
"Visible in Process Portal" and this variable or business object
property used a business object type that was a simple type and
later changed to a complex type.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When the process instance data is saved, the variables and
business object properties that are marked as "Visible in
Process Portal" are stored in a separate database table to make
them available for queries, such as saved searches. If you use
Saved Search acceleration, IBM BPM must update another database
table. The logic to prepare this database statement did not
handle the case that the variable or business object property
uses a Selection simple type or had been changed to a complex
    type in the meantime.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix will be included in a future release of IBM BPM that
correctly handles variable and business object properties that
are marked as "Visible in Process Portal" and use a Selection
simple type or a type that had been changed from a simple to a
    complex type.
