Error description

  • If you aren't a member of the group configured in the
bpmAuthorGroup IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) setting
(tw_authors, by default), you can't access the desktop IBM
Process Designer. You see the following misleading error:

"Unable to establish a connection with the Process Center.
Please check your connection settings and verify that the server
    is running. "

Additionally, the web Process Designer responds with the
following misleading error when you don't have the right
permissions to access it, even though membership in the
    bpmAuthorGroup is not required:

"You do not have permission to access this process application.
To access a process application or toolkit, you must have Read
permission and be part of the bpmAuthorGroup (tw_authors by
default). Contact your administrator for access. "

    PRODUCTS AFFECTED
    IBM BPM Advanced
    IBM BPM Standard
    IBM BPM Express

Local fix

  • Ask the administrator to add users to the bpmAuthorGroup
    (tw_authors, by default).

Problem summary

  • No additional information is available.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix will be included in a future release that removes the
requirement of being a bpmAuthorGroup member to access the
desktop Process Designer, which is consistent with the web
    Process Designer.
In addition, the error message for unauthorized accessed to the
desktop Process Designer will be improved.
