Error description

  • The "sendMarketingTriggers" job is currently timing out.  As a
    result
    our daily "Customer Is In Segment" dialog activities are
    failing.
    
    The SendMarketingTriggers job will timeout after 5 minutes if
    the transaction is not committed.
    There is code to handle when this job runs long because of lots
    of members in an individual segment (1000+), or lots of entries
    in DMTRIGSND.
    However, customer scenario is one that is not currently being
    handled.
    Customer has 6 dialog activities that are being evaluated
    because of the "Customer Is In Segment" trigger, but each
    individual segment does not exceed 1000 members. The segment
    sizes are 561, 79, 390, etc..
    So with the current code, the total length is exceeding 5
    minutes, and the transaction is never committed along the way.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Timeout exceptions may appear in the logs when running the
    nightly SendMarketingTriggers scheduled job.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This problem occurs when there are many dialog activities with
    triggers that are evaluated once a day and the number of users
    processed in each activity is under 1000.
    
    The marketing code was enhanced to prevent the transaction
    timeout when processing a large number of dialog activities
    during the SendMarketingTriggers scheduled job.
