Error description

  • Pre-condition:
1. WebSphere Commerce is using an Oracle database.
2. The shopper who is browsing the storefront belongs to more
than 1000 member groups (segments).

Symptoms of the problem:
1. When the customer hovers over the product image to show the
quick info, the quick info is not shown properly.
2. The WebSphere Commerce log prints Oracle error code:
ORA-01795.

Problem summary


    

  • USERS AFFECTED:
WebSphere Commerce v7 customers who use Oracle as their
database, and have shoppers who belong to more than 1000 member
groups.

PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
The product quick info dialog is not showing properly when
WebSphere Commerce is using an Oracle database and the shopper
belongs to more than 1000 member groups.

BUSINESS IMPACT:
The shopper who belongs to more than 1000 member groups will not
be able to view the product quick info properly.

RECOMMENDATION:

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • Oracle has a limitation that the maximum number of expressions
in a list is 1000, so when there are more than 1000 expressions,
the "ORA-01795" exception will be thrown.

This fix will change the code logic to split those expressions
with an 'OR' condition when there are more than 1000 member
groups.
