APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The watchdog component of the OS Agent for Unix and Linux calls
  the "cinfo" command to check agent status and get instance
  information.  Sometimes the "cinfo" command does not return a
  value which can result in the process for the command not
  terminating.
  

Local fix

• Watchdog can be disabled with the following steps:
  
  Edit the lz.ini or ux.ini and comment out the line the starts
  with KCA_CAP_DIR.  (Note the value on the right might have a
  slightly different value based on the release).
  
  #  KCA_CAP_DIR=$CANDLEHOME$/config/CAP:/opt/IBM/CAP
  and add the line
  KCA_CAP_DIR=
  
  Stop and restart the OS Agent.
  

Problem summary

• Watchdog calls to cinfo sometimes do not terminate.
  
  When the watchdog utility which is part of the OS agent issues
  calls to the "cinfo" command sometimes the calls do not
  terminate which results in extraneous "cinfo" processes running
  in the background.  This can occur on either the UNIX or Linux
  OS agents.
  

Problem conclusion

• Code has been updated to terminate an externally
  launched command that has not terminated after twenty minutes.
  Commands can include calls to "cinfo" and "itmcmd".
  
  The fix for this APAR is not supported on the following
  platforms due to threading issues in the kernel:
  li6243 - Linux Intel R2.4 (32 bit)
  ls3243 - Linux S390 R2.4 (31 bit)
  ls3246 - Linux S390 R2.4 (64 bit)

• Watchdog can be disabled until the fix can be applied.
