IZ81520: UPGRADED LZ AGENT, WATCHDOG DOES NOT PICK UP LATEST CAP FILES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Upgraded Linux agent, Watchdog does not pick up latest CAP
  files.
  
  In Linux OS Agent version 6.21 (when Watchdog was first
  shipped), it placed CAP/.xml files in the
  $CANDLEHOME$/$BINARCH$/$PRODUCTCODE$/bin/CAP directory.  It
  placed them for klz.xml, kca.xml, ksy.xml, khd.xml, and kum.xml.
  
  When upgrading from 6.21 to 622, in the lz.ini file the
  KCA_CAP_DIR is set to:
  KCA_CAP_DIR=$CANDLEHOME$/$BINARCH$/$PRODUCTCODE$/bin/CAP:$CANDLE
  HOME$/config/CAP:/opt/IBM/CAP.
  
  So it continues to find and use the "old" CAP files and not the
  "new" CAP files.  Starting with IZ76377 we are changing to use
  "cinfo -r" and also changing the checkFrequency to be 120
  seconds from 30 seconds.  The way KCA_CAP_DIR is defined, it
  will always pick up the "old" CAP files and never use the new
  ones for these agents.
  
  The other side effect of the old KCA_CAP_DIR is that it displays
  CAP files for agents (ksy, khd, kum) even if they are not
  installed.  Starting in 622 CAP files are only displayed if the
  agent is installed.  If the customer wants to remove these, they
  have to go to each machine and delete the CAP files manually.
  

Local fix

• There are two work-arounds:
  1. The lz.ini file can be updated and the KCA_CAP_DIR can be
     set to:
       KCA_CAP_DIR=$CANDLEHOME$/config/CAP:/opt/IBM/CAP
     and the agent restarted.
  
  2. Move the files in $CANDLEHOME/$BINARCH$/lz/bin/CAP to a
     backup location.  Then stop and restart the agent.
  

Problem summary

• The code was updated to change the KCA_CAP_DIR in the lz.ini so
  it no longer includes the old CAP directory
  $CANDLEHOME/<binarch>/lz/bin/CAP.

• The fix for this APAR is included in the following maintenance
