Error description

  • Environment:

ITM 32-bit/64-bit Agents on Windows machines. his APAR only
    applies to
      Windows machines.

    Problem Description:
When a 32-bit/64-bit ITM Agent is uninstalled and it has
    instances,
the instance INI, ENV and EXE files may not removed from the
    ITM
directory tree so they still show as available in MTEMS. The
    agent
services are not removed from the Service Manager, so they may
      attempt to start upon reboot.

    Recreate Instructions:
      1. Install agent and configure an instance.
      2. Uninstall the Agent CD to remove the agent and all
    instances.
      3. Without the APAR, the instances show as available in MTEMS
    GUI.
Also, their service may not be removed from the Service
    Control
         Manager.
After the APAR, these instances are removed and MTEMS shows
    no
         trace of the uninstalled Agent.

Local fix

  • Delete the INI, ENV and EXE files if they exist in either the
TMAITM6 directory or the TMAITM6_x64 directory for the agent
instance in question. Once the INI file has been deleted the
    entries will disappear from MTEMS.
Use "sc delete servicename" to uninstalled any agent services
    that remain.

Alternatively, use the Remove Instance option from MTEMS to
delete both the agent config ini files and the agent services.

Problem summary

  • When a 32-bit IBM Tivoli Management (ITM) Agent is uninstalled
and it has instances, the instances INI, ENV and EXE files may
not be removed from the ITM directory tree so they still show as
available in Manage Tivoli Enterprise Management Services
(MTEMS). The agent services are not removed from the Service
Manager, so they may attempt to start upon reboot.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was changed to delete INI, ENV and EXE file when a primary
product code is removed. This removes the instances from
visibility to MTEMS and fixes the problem.

The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance

    packages:

       | fix pack | 6.2.2-TIV-ITM-FP0008
       | fix pack | 6.2.3-TIV-ITM-FP0002

Temporary fix

  • Delete the INI, ENV and EXE files if they exist in either the
TMAITM6 directory or the TMAITM6_x64 directory for the agent
instance in question. The files will have the instance name in
their names. Once the INI file has been deleted the entries
will disappear from MTEMS. Use "sc delete servicename" to
uninstall any agent services that remain.
