    Abstract:        Unix Agent crashes when "Agent Management
    Services"
                     workspace accessed
    Environment:     ITM 622 FP2
    
    Problem Description: Clicking on the "Agent Management Services"
    navigator item under UNIX OS in Physical view of Tivoli
    Enterprise
    Portal causes the Unix OS Agent to crash.
    
    The problem is due to a call to getutxid which returns a NULL
    value, but
    the code does not check for NULL.
    
    
    Local fix/workaround: Customer can temporarily disable
    the watchdog feature. To do this:
    
      Edit the ux.ini and comment out the line the starts
      with KCA_CAP_DIR.  (Note the value on the right might have
      a slightly different value based on the release).
        #  KCA_CAP_DIR=$CANDLEHOME$/config/CAP:/opt/IBM/CAP
      and add the line
         KCA_CAP_DIR=
    
       Stop and restart the OS Agent
    
    
    Related Files and Output:  The following messages are the last
    written
    to the
    log file when tracing is set to ALL.  The problem occurs in the
    "getUpTime"

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When the "Agent Mangement Services" workspace was selected in
    the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, the UNIX OS Agent would crash.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The call to getutxid was returning a null value and the code was
    not checking for null before using the results.
