IZ73071: TEMS CRASH IN HOT STANDBY WITH BACKLEVEL CAT FILE.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• If the kib catalog files are out of synchronization between a
  hot-standby pair of TEMS, the stage II sychronization process
  will fail only to be restarted 5 minutes later again and again.
  CPU processor utilization is increased substantially as is
  storage consumption.  Final result is a TEMS crash.
  
  RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
  - Using a backlevel copy of the CCT table at the primary and a
    current copy at the secondary follow these steps (a
    pre-IZ51285 copy of the ib catalog and post-IZ51285 copy could
    be used).
  - Shutdown the secondary Hub.
  - Modify or add a takeaction for a situation.
  - Restart the secondary.
  
    You should see increased processor utilization at both the
  primary and secondary TEMS.  You should also see "missing
  column" messages issued at the HUB.  If you stay up long enough
  a crash will occur.
  

Local fix

• Make certain the kib.cat files are in sync between your TEMS
  hot-standby pairs.
  

Problem summary

• On the management server, high CPU and a possible server crash
  in a Hot Standby Environment. During processing in a Hot Standby
  environment, a backlevel IB catalog file causes key processes to
  fail. Missing columns in the IB catalog causes this high CPU in
  the management server and leads to a possible crash.
  

Problem conclusion

• Tolerate a 202 return code and continue the key processing so it
  will complete.  Write a log record indicating the failing
  application table.

Temporary fix

• Make certain that the IB catalog file (kib.cat) is current on
  all management servers.
