Error description
During upgrade to CICS V420 the RKCPDEFW.DB and RKCSDEFW.IDX files were provided in the CMS directory and caused an overlay of the production tables. Since there does not seem to be a migration strategy for these tables from the backup directory, the modifications to the tables were lost during the upgrade. RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS: The OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS CICS Service Level Analysis (SLA) OMEGAMON WLM definitions are stored in the RKCPDEFW file allocated to the Hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server. If you are upgrading OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS V4.1.0 or V4.2.0 on a Windows system, perform the following steps prior to installing your OMEGAMON XE V420 application support data files image or upgrading your IBM Tivoli Monitoring level: 1. Create this directory: <install_dir>\CMS\KCPWICMS 2. Copy the RKCPDEFW.* file to this location: <install_dir>\CMS\KCPWICMS 3. Install your IBM Tivoli Monitoring image (if applicable). 4. Install the Application Support files DVD image. If you remove OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS Application Support from your IBM Tivoli Monitoring program installation, remove any instance of KCPDEFW.DB/IDX and/or KCPDEFW.DB/IDX from the following directories: <install_dir>\CMS\RKCPDEFW.* <install_dir>\CMS\KCPWICMS\RKCPDEFW.* If you are upgrading OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS on a z/OS system or a distributed system other than Windows, the previous steps are not required. If you are performing a maintenance upgrade only, save a back up copy of the RKCPDEFW file prior to starting your upgrade. You can use a standard system file backup utility or the Service Level Analysis batch utility (kcp_slabatch) to back up your RKCPDEFW file. See the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS: User's Guide for details on how to use the Service Level Analysis batch utility.
Local fix
Before upgrading backup the tables and when he upgrade completes restore the tables from the backup area. The workaround is also described in the readme for the V420 release.
Problem summary
The files RKCPDEFW.IDX and RKCPDEFW.DB can be overlayed and data lost during upgrade. This occurs when upgrading from V310 to V410 and V410 to V420. Version V421 corrects the problem by moving the products from an external file RKCPDEFW.* to the supported EIB files and architecture.
Problem conclusion
The code was changed so that when upgrading any release, the RKCPDEFW.* files are located and backed up. If the KCPWICMS.VER file is present and the release is below V4.21, the code will restore the RKCPDEFW.* files. If the release is larger than V4.21, the files are not restored and are also deleted if present in the HOME\CMS directory. The file should not be present because the manual procedure to upgrade from external files to EIB internal file should call for the deletion of the files. The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance packages: | fix pack | 6.2.2-TIV-ITM-FP0003 | fix pack | 6.2.1-TIV-ITM-FP0004
Temporary fix
The current circumvention is to always manually backup RKCPDEFW.* files in the HOME\CMS directory if present and CICS z/OS Support is being installed or upgraded. After the install or upgrade completes, the files should be manually restored. The procedure is documented in the product readme file.
