Error description

  • Severity: 2
    Compid: 5724K1000 Tivoli Universal Agent
Abstract:Unix/Linux SNMP v2 Traps display incorrect Source Name
    in TEP
    .
    Environment:
Customer is running the Universal Agent at ITM 6.21 GA level
    on an AIX 5.3 box
Do you think the latest patch applied is involved? No
    Problem Description:
SNMP V1 traps that the UA receives are correctly displaying
the Source Name attribute on the TRAPs workspace in the TEP but
SNMP V2 traps have the Source Name set incorrectly.
Unfortuantely it is picking up the IP address of the Universal
Agent rather than the SNMP Agent.
    Detailed Recreation Procedure:
This problem can be recreated by having an SNMP Agent on a
different box to the UA issue an SNMP V2 trap that is sent to
the UA. It will display in the traps workspace with the IP
address or the Hostname of the Universal Agent instead of the IP
address or Hostname of the SNMP Agent.
    Related Files and Output:
On ECUREP there is a screen captrue showing the results from 2
SNMP V2 traps and many SNMP V1 traps. Also, the UA RAS1 log
with details tracing enabled that shows that the SNMP V2 trap
buffer does have the correct IP address set as the Source SNMP
Agent but then it assigns the local IP address as the source
    SNMP Agent.

Local fix

  • Don't have SNMP V2 traps displayed in Traps workspace or
    ignore the Source Name attribute.

Problem summary

  • There is a problem getting correct Source Name attribute value
    when running UA on a UNIX/Linux platform receiving SNMPv2 traps;
this is not a problem if UA is receiving SNMPv1 traps.

Problem conclusion

  • Modified the code that sets the IP address of the machine that
sent the UDP packet to UA. On a Windows platform, this results
in the correct trap "source" IP address.
