  Abstract:        Cannot close pure event with display item
  
  Environment:
  ITM TEPS, any platform, any release
  
  Problem Description:
  If a pure event has a display item value that contains leading
  spaces
  (as seen at the event source, or in TEMS or TEMA logs), those
  leading
  spaces will be trimmed by TEPS.  As a result, the event cannot
  be closed
  from TEP because the display item value sent by TEPS does not
  match the
  event in the TEMS.
  
  Detailed Recreation Procedure:
  - Create a situation to monitor the universal message log
  situation name
  attribute for the name of this new situation
  - Issue a SOAP CT_Alert command for this new situation,
  specifying an
  <item> property that has leading spaces
  - In the SEC, right-click the event and select Close Event

Problem summary

• The portal server trims leading and trailing spaces from all
  data it receives from the monitoring server.  This includes
  situation event data.  So leading and trailing spaces will be
  trimmed from the display item value.  However, the monitoring
  server does not trim leading spaces from the display item value.
  So when the portal server sends a close command for an event
  with a display item, the display item columns do not match, and
  the monitoring server cannot find the event to close.
  

Problem conclusion

• Do not trim leading spaces from data received from the
  monitoring server.
  
  New environment variable added:
  
  KFW_SQL1_TRIM_LEADING_SPACES=N
  
  Set to Y to enable previous behavior and trim all leading
  spaces. For internal use only. Contact L3 before sending to a
  customer.
