Error description

  • Environment:
    TEPS on Linux/AIX, all releases

    Problem Description:
    After running 'itmcmd config -A cq' on Linux or AIX, upon
    restarting the TEPS it consumes high CPU. Restarting the TEPS
    may or may not resolve the problem.
    TEPS is configured to use SSL for client/server
    communication and during the reconfigure step, clients are left
    running. The clients do not reconnect after the TEPS is
    restarted.

    Detailed Recreation Procedure:
    1. Configure TEPS to use SSL
    2. Start a client
    3. Stop the TEPS, but leave the client running
    4. Run 'itmcmd config -A cq'
    5. When the config process ends, restart TEPS

Problem summary

  • During a portal server reconfiguration, the server starts in a
    reduced functionality mode which does not support client
    connections. However it will write out a new IOR file, and if
    any clients are attempting to reconnect, they will get this new
    IOR and start trying to connect on the address and port
    identified in the IOR string. This IOR string also does not
    enable SSL, so the clients will not use SSL in their connection
    attempts. If SSL is configured for use in normal production
    mode, when the portal server restarts, it will start rejecting
    non-SSL connection attempts. Due to an issue with the CORBA
    client code, the clients will never become aware of the new IOR
    file written after the portal server restarts, and will continue
    trying to connect without using SSL. These repeated connection
    attempts cause the portal server to use high CPU.

Problem conclusion

  • During a portal server reconfigure operation, force the portal
    server to bind to the localhost interface only, and do not
    specify a port.

    The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance
    packages:

       | interim fix | 6.2.0.3-TIV-ITM-IF0001

Temporary fix

  • Edit cq/original/lnxnocmsenv and delete the following lines:

    KFW_INTERFACE_cnps_PORT=15001
    KFW_INTERFACE_cnps_SSL=N

    Add the following line:
    KFW_INTERFACE_cnps_HOST=localhost
