IZ26607: DB2IUPDT CAN FAIL WITH DBI1282W ON SUN, ALL INSTANCE COMMANDS WILL NOT WORK AFTERWARDS

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • On SUN, db2iupdt can fail with the following error in the log
file:
DBI1282W  The database manager configuration files could not be
merged.
The original configuration file was saved as
/dbhome_ew1/dbew103/sqllib/backup/db2systm.old. (The original
instance type is ese. The instance type to be migrated or
updated is ese.)

To make the instance usable again:
cp sqllib/backup/db2systm.old sqllib/db2systm

This happens, when nscd caching is turned on on SUN:
svcadm enable system/name-service-cache

Local fix

  • Turn nscd caching off:
svcadm disable system/name-service-cache

Problem summary

  • On SUN, db2iupdt can fail with the following error in the log
file:

  • First fixed in DB2 UDB Version 9.5, FixPak 3
