Error description

  • <Environment>
    TEMS/TEPS: AIX 5.3 TL06
               ITM 6.1 + FP05
    TEMA: AIX 5.3 TL06
               ITM 6.1 + FP04

    <Problem Description>
The customer is collecting Historical data from TEMA.
TEMS consume the memory resource during the following steps.
    1. Connect from TEP Client to TEPS.
    2. Display the historical data during changing the time span
    (ex. 1H, 1Day, 2Day, 3Day).
    3. When second operation is repeated several times, the memory
    is consumed.
    4. Disconnect from the TEPS and wait about 15 minutes after
that, but the consumed memory is not released.

    TEMS L3 said as follows.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
The TEMS trace logs containing the output from the
    DISPLAY REQUESTS
command shows a steady increase of TEMS requests. The log show
a steady increase of 4 requests each time the TEP user connected
    to the TEMS.

The TEPS is not doing an SQL1_Drop() for the historical data
requests causing the TEMS to increase memory usage each time the
TEP user connects and executes the historical data request.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When the TEP Client issues queries resources are allocated on
the TEPS and the TEMS to support the query. They are marked in
use until the TEP Client indicates they are no longer needed.
At that point, the resources will age for 5 minutes and then
will be freed. The problem occurs when the timespan dialog is
used, a new query is created, but the old query is NOT marked as
no longer needed. So the memory for that query is left in use
at both the TEPS and the TEMS.
