IY93504: APP SUPPORT UPGRADE FAILS WHEN VARIABLES ARE ADDED TO KDC_FAMILIES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• While installing TEMS application support for a new fixpack
  level, the installer fails with rc = -3 (ERR_CONFIG_NOT_FOUND).
  This is because the installer is failing to find the port number
  when a variable has been inserted between the protocol and port
  number of the KDC_FAMILIES string (for example, adding in
  EPHEMERAL:Y).
  
  RECREATION STEPS:
  
  1. Insert a variable such as EPHEMERAL:Y into the KDC_FAMILIES
  string between the port number and the protocol.
  
  For example, KDC_FAMILIES=IP.PIPE PORT:1918 now becomes
  KDC_FAMILIES=IP.PIPE EPHEMERAL:Y PORT:1918
  
  2. Run the application support installer for the TEMS and it
  will fail.

Local fix

• Rearrange the KDC_FAMILIES string so that the transport protocol
  (for example IP.PIPE) is immediately followed by the PORT
  number.
  
  Regardless of what the KDC_FAMILIES is set to in KBBENV, this
  change should actually be made in the Windows registry:
  
  1) open the
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Candle\CMS\KMS\TEMS1\Environment
  key in the registry.
  2) Change the value in KDC_FAMILIES from "IP.PIPE  EPHEMERAL:Y
  PORT:1918"   to   "EPHEMERAL:Y  IP.PIPE  PORT:1918"  instead
  3) run the installation again and app. support should succeed
  

Problem summary

• Application support upgrade fails when EPHEMERAL:Y
  is added between the protocol and port number of the
  KDC_FAMILIES environment variable string.
  

Problem conclusion

• The EPHEMERAL:Y string was not being correctly checked
  during the parsing of the KDC_FAMILIES environment variable.
