Error description

  • When repeatedly issuing the Command Line Interface command
'viewagent' of to retrieve the current agent's configuration
from an Agent that does not respond to deployment requests, the
ability to log onto the Monitoring Server will cease.
    RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
     1. Install 623 Monitoring Server on Linux.
     2. Install 622 FP4 Unix (AIX) OS Agent on endpoint.
     3. Install 622 FP4 Unix Log (UL) Agent on the endpoint.
     3. Log into the Monitoring Server using the (tacmd login)
     4. Execute the command tacmd viewAgent -n endpoint:UX -t UL to
retrive the Configuration information from the UL Agent.
     5. Immediately kill -9 the OS Agent on the target endpoint at
the initiation of the request to simulate a non-responsive
        Agent environment.
     6. Observe the that tacmd viewagent does not return data, but

        returns with a command prompt.
     7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 twenty times to utilize all
        available
Threads reserved for the SOAP Server.
     8. After completing step 7 above, execute the tacmd 'login'

command and notice that the log on attempt is not honored.

Local fix

  • No workaround available.

Problem summary

  • Repeatedly using the viewagent command will result in the
Monitoring Server's inability to accept CLI commands.

When repeatedly issuing the Command Line Interface command
'viewagent' of to retrieve the current agent's configuration
from an agent that does not respond to deployment requests, the
ability to log onto the Monitoring Server will cease.

Problem conclusion

  • When the viewagent command is issued repeatedly against agents
which do not respond with information, but rather their
responses timeout, the Monitoring Server incorrectly does not
forward a completion response to the SOAP Server, resulting in
the SOAP Server reaching its connection limit. When the
connection limit is reached, the user can no longer issue
commands to the Monitoring Server to perform.

Temporary fix

  • Avoid using the viewagent command until the reason for the
    non-responsive agents is resolved.
