Error description

  • Product: Netcool/Impact
    Release: 6.1.1

    Impact Guide has instructions to correct erratic server
    communication in a multiple network interface environment,
    which can be found at this URL...
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSHYH_6.1.1/com.i
    bm.netco
    olimpact.doc6.1.1/tsguide/ts_erratic_nameserver_multi_t.html?lan
    g=en

    the problem is the direction need to be update to make them
    clearer and easier to follow to avoid additional mistakes.

    Here are the clarifications (see marked after ---) from
    Impact Level 3:

    1) on step 4 Run the nci_configuration_utility

    is this just for verification start and quit if cluster order
    is same on each cluster?
    OR when list is displayed as hostname (not IPadress), should an
    update be run to delete the hostnames and add the Ipaddresses?

    ---You need to change from using hostnames to using ip address.
    So you will need to remove the old entries and create new ones
    with the IP address.

    2) during step 5 it is not clear what to change.
     directions are not clear, Maybe it should say something like
    ...

    To ensure that the host points to the IP address. Look for
    WC_defaulthost change host="*" to host="ipaddress" in the
    serverindex.xml file.

    ---You don't want to just change the WC_defaulthost entry. You
    will need to change all entries from host="*" to
    host="ipaddress" and all entries from host="hostname" to
    host="ipaddress"

    3) for step 6 Should this be empty in most cases? both servers
    were empty nothing to remove..

    ---Yeah, it is fine if it is empty.

    4) direction use both $NCHOME and $IMPACT_HOME ... should one
    or the other, not both

    ---We should open a DOC APAR to change this.
