APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The client upgrade, from 9.0.787 to 9.0.835 on Red Hat machines
(Fixlet ID 1687), failed while running the following command:
Command failed (child exec() failed (errno is 13: Permission
denied)) wait /var/tmp/besclientupgrade (action:333970)

The command failed because, for this path, there is the noexec
limitation as suggested by NSA:
http://www.nsa.gov/ia/_files/os/redhat/rhel5-pamphlet-i731.pdf.

The Fixlet uses /var/tmp and expects to be able to execute
binaries from this folder. The Fixlet will be changed to not
use such path.

Local fix

  • Make a custom copy and change the actionscript in the following
way:
delete the line: wait chmod +x /var/tmp/besclientupgrade
Change the line: wait /var/tmp/besclientupgrade
to: wait /bin/sh /var/tmp/besclientupgrade

Problem summary

Problem conclusion

  • Fixed in IBM Endpoint Manager 9.1 (fixpack 4).

General availability not yet determined.
