IV62330: VIOS UPGRADE HANGS ON STOPSVC WHEN IN ALT_ROOT_VG

Error description

• ENVIRONMENT:
  IBM Tivoli Monitoring for System p - VIOS Premium Agent 6.2.2.2
  
  
  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  When upgrading VIOS, for example from v2.2.2.x to 2.2.3.x, by
  doing "alt_root_vg" operation on VIOS and specifying the
  "update_all" option (cloning the system on another disk, and
  updating the cloned part), the post installation script,
  itm.vios_premium.agent.post_i, might hang when executing the
  command:
  /usr/ios/cli/ioscli stopsvc ITM_premium
  
  
  RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
  The problem only occurs by running the update during an
  alt_root_vg.
  Basically the VIOS is installed in 2.2.2.1 on hdisk0.
  "alt_root_vg" allows user to clone the system to another disk,
  and updates the clone with the "-bundle update_all" option:
  $ alt_root_vg -bundle update_all -location /mnt -target hdisk1
  

Local fix

• When the "alt_root_vg" operation is hung on installing
  itm.vios_premium.agent since few minutes :
   # kill <pid of "/usr/ios/cli/ioscli stopsvc ITM_premium">
   wait a minute
   # kill <pid of "/usr/ios/cli/ioscli stopsvc ITM_cec">
  

Problem summary

• The problem will be resolved in VIOS 2.2.4 and above.
