    ABSTRACT:             Agents time out when heartbeat backlog
    exists
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    Online agents can be incorrectly timed out if a backlog of
    heartbeats
    occurs.
    
    This problem can occur when a large number of agents are
    attempting to
    register at an RTEMS and the connection between the RTEMS and
    the HUB is
    slow. The backlog that develops can prevent heartbeats from
    currently connected agents from being processed in a timely
    manner.
    
    RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
    This is difficult to recreate and require a slow connection
    between the
    RTEMS and HUB.
    
    
    Improve the time it takes to send data between the RTEMS and
    the HUB or
    reduce the number of agents connected to the RTEMS.

Problem summary

  • Monitoring agents may time out when a heartbeat backlog exists.
    
    
    In systems with very large numbers of agents heartbeating, some
    agents can be set off-line because the second heartbeat from any
    given agent may not be processed until after the heartbeat grace
    period has expired.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been changed to always give priority to processing
    node heartbeats over node timeouts.
