Error description

  • The IBM Explorer for z/OS hangs during startup. This occurs
    after some additional plug-ins have been installed.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The IBM Explorer for z/OS (z/OS Explorer) hangs sometimes during
    startup. This occurs after additional plug-ins have been
    installed, for example the CICS Tools or IBM Problem
    Determination Tools.
    The hang does not occur on every startup, so the workbench may
    start correctly if it is closed and re-launched.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The startup sequence of IBM Explorer for z/OS has been corrected
    to avoid the hang.
    This APAR also corrects a problem using IBM Explorer for z/OS to
    open data sets using FTP on Windows 7. The connection fails with
    a "ConnectionException: java.net.SocketException: Connection
    reset" exception. Message "IZE0823E Error occurred getting data
    sets data_sets" is also displayed. The problem is described by
    this technote.

    The problem has been corrected by adding the system property
    java.net.preferIPv4Stack=true to the z/OS Explorer configuration
    options file.
    This fix will be made available in Version 2.1.0.1 of the IBM
    Explorer for z/OS. It will also be included in Version 5.1.1.1
    of the CICS Explorer.
