IV44686: KDSTSNS FAILS TO CONNECT TO TEMS IN SEEDING

Error description

  • PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    
    kdstsns fails to connect to the HUB during seeding operations.
    This
    problem may occur in clustered environments. ksminst is invoked
    directly
    or via a script during seeding. It obtains the hostname from the
    operating system and passes that value to kdstsns. kdstsns
    resolves that
    value to an address. But in a clustered environment the hostname
    may not
    resolve to the address needed to connect to the HUB.
    
    RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
    RECREATE STEPS.

    4. Modify the glb_site file
    
    The first attempt at installing 6.2.3 -TIV-ITM_SQL-FP0001 from
    the GUI failed error.
    
    
    I then made a change to the to the  KDC_FAMILIES entry in the
    registry under key
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Candle\KMS\CMS\TEMS1\Environment"
    to the
    following:
    
    "KDC_FAMILIES"="HTTP:1920 IP.PIPE PORT:1918 skip:10 IP use:n SNA
    use:n
    IP.SPIPE use:n"
    
    After the change to the HIVE the installation was fine.
    
    
    
    
    
    
    LOCAL FIX:
    Perform a "ping" and an "nslookup" for the hostname. Adjust
    network configuration if they are both not returning the
    desired network address.
    

Local fix

  • Local fix did not work.
    

Problem summary

  • A monitoring server that has multiple network interfaces (NICs)
    and/or is running in a cluster configuration may fail during the
     application support seeding process. This affects the common
    installers install.sh and SETUP.EXE as well as itmpatch.
    
    For example, running itmpatch from command line, one would see
    messages of following form:
    
    Configuring TEMS support for ...
    Fix Pack nn Version vv.rr.mm.ff
    ERROR: Seeding failed
    ERROR: Installation failed
    

Problem conclusion

  • Logic was changed to select the correct hostname (IP address) to
     pass to the application support seeding process, thereby
    preventing this seeding failure.
    
    The fix for this APAR is included in the following maintenance
    vehicle:
