APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
When disassembling a large object file with the 'dis' disassembler tool, the tool is ending mid-function, creating an incomplete, truncated *.s assembly output file. POWER7 instructions may be present in the function.
Local fix
Use DBX to disassemble.
Problem summary
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The disassembler encounters an internal error during the disassembly of a large object file containing POWER7 instructions. USERS AFFECTED: Users with code containing a large number of PWR7 instructions
Problem conclusion
In the past, the disassembler utility could not recognize PWR7 instructions without an arch option specified. This change allows the disassembler to identify the arch by the C_FILE symbol/.machine information in the target object. This, in turn, corrects the disassembly truncation issue seen.
