Error description

  • Upgrading the Unix Logs agent (ul) on Linux fails when the
installation directory is owned by a non-root user and
"secureMain -g tivoli lock" or "SetPerm -a" was run.

    Recreate Steps:

    1) Install base of ITM 622 FP2 as itmuser.
    2) Add the user itmuser to the group tivoli.
    3) Run secureMain -g tivoli lock to use group tivoli.
    4) Start all components with itmuser.
    5) Notice that cinfo -r shows owner itmuser for all components
except for the ul agent which shows owner root.

    7) The install terminates with the following error message:

install.sh warning: The userid associated with the "ul" product
code and "13776" process id does not match the current user,
    continuing ...
    install.sh failure: KCI0245E A running process(s) was detected
whose associated userid does not match the current userid. The
    install will be aborted.

Local fix

  • Stop the Unix Logs agent (ul) before upgrading.

Problem summary

  • Upgrade of the UNIX Log Agent fails on Linux if the SetPerm or
    secureMain command was run.

Upgrading the UNIX Log Agent (product code ul) as a non-root
user on Linux fails when the installation path is owned by a
non-root user and "secureMain -g tivoli lock" or "SetPerm -a"
was run beforehand. The upgrade as a non-root user fails because
the installer detects that the UNIX Log Agent is running as root
user and issues a fatal error instead of attempting to stop the
agent. The fatal error appears as follows:
    install.sh failure: KCI0245E A running process(s) was detected
whose associated userid does not match the current userid. The
    install will be aborted.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was changed to recognize that the UNIX Log Agent was
started by a non-root user and can then be stopped by the
    installer.

The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance
    packages:
      | fix pack | 6.2.2-TIV-ITM-FP0009
      | fix pack | 6.2.3-TIV-ITM-FP0002

Temporary fix

  • Stop the UNIX Log Agent before upgrade.
