Error description

  • When modifying or displaying Historical collection settings, the
    display refresh can take an inordinate amount of time.  The root
    cause of the problem has not yet been identified.  Detailed
    recreate instructions are not yet available.  At this point, the
    problem either happens or it doesn't.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When displaying or configuring Historical collection,
    particularly when the agent has a large number of attribute
    groups, the time it takes to display the attribute groups can
    take a long time.  Other factors contributing to an increase in
    time would be the warehouse data base on a remote system and the
    historical collection settings have been migrated to the
    WAREHOUSESUMPRUNE table.  With slow network and/or slow data
    base response time.
    
    The existing portal server code issues an SQL SELECT for each
    table (ie.  attribute group) of any particular agent type.  If
    there are a small number of agent types, this will not take an
    inordinate amount of time, but when there are a large number of
    agent tables an SQL SELECT is issued for each table.  This was
    reported for a customer that had 1700 separate agent tables (ie.
    attribute groups) with an average of about 2 or 3 SQL SELECTS
    per second, it could take 9 - 12 minutes for the collection
    settings to be displayed.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Changed the code to issue single SQL request for the entire
    table and then iterate through the results to find the
    collection settings.
