  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  
  
  itmpatch is designed to upgrade packages that are of the same
  release.
  
  The current design assumes that ITM updates, whether they be Fix
  Packs (aka Interim Features), or Iterium Fixes (aka LA) are
  cumulative.
  
  This means that the philosophy since 6.1 GA was that authors of
  FP, IF or LA would build these updates upon the latest versions
  of source code available, rather than on source files associated
  with a specific build in the past.
  
  To enforce such a policy, itmpatch would check only the VVRM
  portion of the VVRMFFII version information since using VRM
  insures that the updates
  are applicable to the correct release and avoids applying
  updates to earlier releases.
  
  
  As a result, application of Fix Packs (Interim Features) or
  Interim Fixes can upgrade any version of VVRMM.  So both ITM
  0622 FP2 and 0622 FP3 would be candidates for the update.
  
  
  Since authors of the Interim Features prefer to only update at
  the Feature level (VVRMFF), an enhancement must be made to
  itmpatch to support this new requirement.
  
  
  
  RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
  
  
  1. Install the following Interium Feature on an endpoint:
  
  VIOS FP24
  va    Monitoring Agent for VIOS Premium
  aix523     Version: 06.22.01.00
  
  2. Apply Interium Feature
  
  6.2.2.1-TIV-ITM_VIOS_PREM-IF0001
  
  to the endpoint.
  
  3. Observe successful application of the update.
  
  4. Install the following Interim Feature on and endpoint.
  
  VIOS FP23
  va      Monitoring Agent for VIOS Premium
  aix523  Version: 06.22.00.00
  
  5. Apply Interium Feature
  
  6.2.2.1-TIV-ITM_VIOS_PREM-IF0001
  
  to the endpoint.
  
  6. Observe successful application of the update.
  

Local fix

• When performing updates of endpoint products, select only those
  endpoints which are specified in the README document as
  candidates for the update.
  

Problem summary

• If a provisional fix package has a patch.ini that defines the
  values
  
  productVer = 06
  productRel = 22
  productMod = 02
  productLvl = 01
  
  the patch is applicable to any Fix Pack of the 06.22 release and
  not specifically to the 06.22.02 version specified. This may
  result in applying updates to managed systems unintentionally.
  
  
  Patch checking is done at the release level, and not
  modification level, since the original design assumption was
  that all Fix Packs and Interim Fixes were cumulative.
  

Problem conclusion

• Patches may no longer be applied to a Fix Pack level other than
  the one specified for a given release.
  
  The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance
