Error description

  • The installation of IBM Spectrum Control fails if there is an
    underscore ( _ ) in the hostname, i.e. MySC_server
    The installation failes during the Storage Resource Agent
    installation with error seen in the lax file:

    The underscore character is not a valid character for the
    hostname.
    The Spectrum Control code will be enhanced to improve the host
    name validation.
    
    In case only a partial roll back is done during the Spectrum
    Control  installation (meaning all is installed except the SRA),
    other symptoms have been noted:
    - adding storage systems fails with message "Can't connect to
    the xxxxxxxxx storage systems"
    - creating report fails with message "Cannot connect to Device
    Server"
    

Local fix

  • install Spectrum Control on a machine where the hostname doesn't
    contain an underscore.
