Error description

  • Currently IBM Spectrum Protect Server does not work correctly
when different CHECKTAPEPOS server options values to use in a
shared library environment. If different option values are used,
then the backup may fail at the one with option value as NO.
The reason is that the server does not check the drive real
setting when the option is NO. Therefore the server setting and
the drive setting may be mismatch. This mismatch can cause the
drive rejects the write operation. IBM Spectrum Protect Server
checks the drive setting when the CHECKTAPEPOS server option
values as YES, DRIVEONLY, and TSMONLY.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:

In the QUERY ACTLOG you could observed:

ANR8337I LTO volume ABCDEF mounted in drive DRIVE01 ( /dev/xyz
    ). (SESSION: 172, PROCESS: 5)

ANR1340I Scratch volume ABCDEF is now defined in storage pool
    TAPE01. (SESSION: 172, PROCESS: 5)

ANR8592I Session 180 connection is using protocol TLSV12,
cipher specification UVWXYZ, certificate OPQRST (SESSION: 172,
    PROCESS: 5)

ANR0408I Session 180 started for server TSM (Linux/x86_64) (SSL)
for library sharing. (SESSION: 172, PROCESS: 5)

ANR0409I Session 180 ended for server TSM (Linux/x86_64).
    (SESSION: 172, PROCESS: 5)

ANR1411W Access mode for volume ABCDEF now set to "read-only"
due to write error. (SESSION: 172, PROCESS: 5)

The following trace is from the library client. The CHECKTAPEPOS
is NO in the library client and the CHECKTAPEPOS is YES in the
    library manager.

Local fix

  • Issue the QUERY OPTION to check the value defined for the
    CHECKTAPEPOS option.
Ensure that value is the same for each LIBRARY MANAGER, LIBRARY
    CLIENT and STORAGE AGENT.
