  • ANR4628E Device /dev/rmtX failed to close with error code 47
    error can occur if
    CHECKTAPEPOS setting between the library manager and the library
    client is not consistent.

    The issue is caused by the CHECKTAPEPOS setting between the
    library manager and the library client.
    The CHECKTAPEPOS is YES in the library manager and the
    CHECKTAPEPOS is TSMONLY in the library
    client. When the library manager mounts this tape to the drive,
    the drive safe mode is enabled by
    the CHECKTAPEPOS YES setting. Once this mode is enabled, the
    drive requires an application to set
    ALLOW OVERWRITE to the drive. Then this drive can write data to
    this mounted tape. However, the
    CHECKTAPEPOS TSMONLY is in the library client. With this
    setting, the library client does not set
    ALLOW OVERWRITE to the drive. Therefore, the library client
    cannot relabel the tape and fails to
    backup. When the library client tries to close this drive, the
    Atape driver fails with the SCSI
    command Write Dynamic Runtime Attribute and sets the errno value
    as EWRPROTECT. This failure is
    caused by the CHECKTAPEPOS setting. Server close device routine
    checks ENOTREADY for close(). But the server does not check
    EWRPROTECT.
     Therefore, the server displays ANR4628E when this error occurs.
    This error message should not be displayed because this failure
    is not to be concerned about.
    The close() function already successfully releases the
    reservation.
    If CHECKTAPEPOS YES is set on the library client, then this
    error will not occur.

    IBM Spectrum Protect versions affected:
    Server  7.1.x  and 8.1.x and on AIX platform with IBM devices
    using Atape.driver
