Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect plus backup job can go into a loop  when
    there
    are problems creating the snapshot for a vm.
    
    
    In the job log, you will see the problem vm backup start as
    follows but it will not complete

    Then in the job log you will see the following message loop
    hundreds of times:

    The vmware.log of the problem vm may not show any current
    activity after snapshot creation starts.

Local fix

  • To clear the looping condition try the following in order
    .
    1)Cancel the problem backup job that is looping in the Server UI
    
    If 1) does not work  then try
    
    2) Stop/start the virgo service on the problem Vsnap

Problem conclusion

  • This problem has been fixed so that after encountering condition
    of no response from VMware for creating snapshot, the new
    behavior is to timeout after one hour and end the backup as
    failed.
