Error description

  • Hyper-v virtual machine backup will fail if there are multiple
iSCSI initiators with the same IQN on Hyper-V server.
As an example, the following error messages can be seen from
    the virgo log:
    [timestamp] INFO pool-393-thread-1
    c.c.e.s.common.storage.vsnap.VsnapStorageConnection
      1563372651210 param:
    {"name":"04fe9ebc-faef-384f-9005-e0ddc16e2978-1563372708","iqns"
    :["
    iqn.yyyymm.backward-naming-authority:unique-device-name","iqn.yy
    yymm.backward-naming-authority:unique-device-name","iqn.yyyymm.b
    ackward-naming-authority:unique-device-name"]}
    ......
    [timestamp] INFO pool-393-thread-1
    c.c.e.s.common.storage.vsnap.VsnapStorageConnection
      1563372651210 reason : {"message":"Failed to create host:
Host (2) is already associated with initiator
    iqn.yyyymm.backward-naming-authority:unique-device-name","type":
"HostCreateError"} message :"Failed to create host: Host (2) is
    already associated with initiator
    iqn.yyyymm.backward-naming-authority:unique-device-name"type
    :"HostCreateError"
The following Powershell command can be used on the Hyper-v
server to determine if multiple iSCSI initiators with the same
    IQN exist:
    Get-InitiatorPort -ConnectionType iSCSI | fl *
This error occurs because the duplicated initiators could not
be properly filtered out before sending the request to vSnap
    for host creation.
    Initial impact: Medium
    Versions Affected: 10.1.*

Problem conclusion

  • In certain circumstances a duplicate iSCSI IQN is passed when
trying to map the backup storage volume to the hypervisor host.
This caused an error when attempting to map those disks. A
correction was made in the software to prevent this condition.
