Error description

  • The restore via option "ESX host if vCenter is down"
fails to copy vitual machine files. Job log shows:

    DETAIL,1569398204139,<date,time,timezone>,2,CTGGA0968,Copying
    files for VM (<vm-name>)
    ERROR,1569398208749,<date,time,timezone>,2,CTGGA0967,Failed to
    copy VM (<vm-name>) files
    ERROR,1569398208757,<date,time,timezone>,2,CTGGA1110,No
    selected item is recoverable.

By checking tasks in VMware side, the step to Create Nas
Datastore is successful. But next step to Make Directory fails
saying like "The file fc4ab6a6/<vm-name>.vm-1011 wasn't found".
The directory name fc4ab6a6 comes from VM group backup and it
does not exist on the target datastore. So when creating its
sub-directory fc4ab6a6/<vm-name>.vm-1011, it fails because the
intermediate level folder fc4ab6a6 is not found.

Local fix

  • Manually create the missing intermediate level folder on target
    datastore

Problem conclusion

  • A group ID was added to the directory structure in vSnap. A
change was needed for the restore option "restore a virtual
machine via ESX host if vCenter down" to account for this change
    and perform the restore properly.

Temporary fix
