APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When multiple Data Collector agents are deployed in a customer's
    datacenter, Storage Insights chooses the best agent to use for
    Probe and Performance Monitoring data transmission back to
    Storage Insights; but the same logic is not applied when
    triggering hardware log collection/upload to EcuRep. The result
    of this can be selecting a data collector that is not able to
    reach the storage device, which then results in a failure to
    upload storage device logs for use by IBM hardware
    support.
    
    RECREATE STEPS:
    Observe failures to upload logs to
    IBM EcuRep when requested from the Storage Insights
    GUI.

    * When collecting and uploading device logs in                 *
    * Storage Insights, there could be an incorrect                *
    * data collector assigned in the get device logs               *
    * process.                                                     *

    * When multiple data collectors are deployed for a             *
    * Storage Insights instance, the upload device logs            *
    * task doesn't select the primary data collector for           *
    * the device but some other data collector with no             *
    * connectivity.                                                *

    * The upload logs task fails because the device is             *
    * unreachable from the selected data collector in              *
    * the upload. And the task fails after waiting the             *
    * default timeout.                                             *
