Error description

  • After clicking the "Data Movers" tab in the Data Protection for
VMware vSphere Web Client plug-in, the following error message
    might be displayed

GVM5002E: An error occurred Time-out exceeded Log out and log in
again. If the problem persist, contact your administrator for
    assistance

The problem might not occur if there are only one or two data
movers in the environment. Although there is no fixed minimum
number of data moversnecessary for the problem to occur, the
likelihood of the problem occurring increases when there are
    more data movers in environment.

Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable) None Available

    Initial Impact: Low|Medium|High Medium

Additional Keywords: GUI TIME-OUT VMWARE WEB UI PLUGIN

Local fix

  • Add each data mover's host name and IP address to file "hosts"
of the VE for VMware plug-in GUI host. This file is
    located in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc". For example,
a data mover with domain name"host.prod.system.com" and
numeric IP address "1.2.3.4", add this entry to the hosts
    file:

      1.2.3.4 host.prod.system.com

    MDVREGR 8.1.8.0

Problem conclusion

  • The logic to look up IP address has changed to no longer to a
DNS lookup, if the IP is provided. The result is a quicker
return for each data mover and reduction in likelihood of a
    timeout occurring.
