IT29718: IBM SPECTRUM PROTECT PLUS HUNG VM BACKUPS WON'T CANCEL

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Selecting the Cancel option on a hung VM backup
    SLA in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus does not actually
    cancel the backup. The backup continue to not
    process anything without ever cancelling.
    The virgo log will show that the request to
    cancel has been received:
    jobmanExecutor-4 c.c.e.s.protection.hypervisor.
    ProtectionTaskExecutor Job cancellation request
    received.
    However, the job never cancels.
    This apar will specically fix this issue as it relates
    to the following call:
    com.catalogic.ecx.serviceprovider.protection.hypervisor.cbt.Vadp
    Proxy.detectAndAddOtherVadpProxyInfo
    Versions affected: 10.1.X

Local fix

  • Restart the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus appliance
    when no other jobs are running to clear the hung SLA

Problem conclusion

  • This problem has been fixed so that after encountering condition
    that it takes too long to get response when gathering optional
    VADP proxy information, the new behavior is to timeout so that
    cancel can proceed.
