Error description

  • Installing Spectrum Protect server 7.1.x or 8.1.x on Red Hat
    version 6 or 7,  can result in an error reporting that the
    operating system version is not supported:
    
    Validation results:
    
    * [ERROR] IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server 7.1.7.20160907_1803
    contains validation errors.
    1. ERROR: The operating system where you are installing the
    product is not supported. For more information, see
    http://www.ibm.com/software/tivoli/products/storage-mgr/platform
    s.html.
    
    The server install will stop at this point.
    
    This error can be produced on a supported Red Hat version if:
    
    rpm -qa --queryformat '%{RELEASE}\n' redhat-release* | grep \\.
    
    fails to report the Red Hat version correctly, (it has been seen
    mainly when the command returns no results) thus the install
    fails, as it reports the operating system version is not
    supported.
    This is incorrect, and the error message should not indicate
    that the operating system is not supported, but should indicate
    that it was unable to determine operating system version,
    and still fail.

  • Engage Linux admins to assist in getting:
    
    "rpm -qa --queryformat '%{RELEASE}\n' redhat-release* | grep
    \\."
    
    to work correctly and report output.
