Error description

  • Operations on the data mover on will end with:
    ANS1017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
    
    because they are using an admin port instead of the appropriate
    TCPport value.
    
    Platforms affected: Linux x86

Local fix

  • Got to affected dsm.sys on the data mover and change the TCPport
    option to the correct value.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * When using the Data Protection for VMware VEGUI              *
    * configuration wizard, the sample opt files generated have    *
    * the incorrect TCPPort value.   Instead of using the client / *
    * server port it uses the administrative port number.   If the *
    * ports happen to be the same (e.g. both 1500), then this      *
    * problem is not seen.   If they are different and the sample  *
    * opt file is used, then this problem will be seen.            *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply fixing level when available.  This problem is          *
    * currently projected to be fixed in level 8.1.8.  Note that   *
    * this information is subject to change at the discretion of   *
    * IBM.                                                         *

Problem conclusion

  • Code changes were made to assign the correct port to the TCPPort
    option when generating the sample option files in the
    configuration wizard.
    

Temporary fix

  • To fix this manually:
    Find the correct port number by logging into the Spectrum
    Protect server and query the TCPPort value.  Once the value is
    known, update the dsm.sys (e.g.
    /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.<prefix_nodename>.sys) for the
    failing data mover.  Once the option file is updated, you must
    restart any running dsmcad services or active dsmc processes.
